Science Made Us Robots – Don’t Jump (2024)

The sweat of your skin from thrashing around in the pit while the rays of the summer sun beat down is clearly the best way to enjoy ‘Don’t Jump’, the latest offering from British punks Science Made Us Robots. From the first chord, I was transported back to every summer festival I’ve been to. A band this good deserves their place amongst the greats of any genre in my opinion with the influence from one of my all-time favourite bands Bad Religion in the pulsating piece of power punk!

Hailing from Edinburgh in 2012, their 12 years of experience and love of genre have meant that they can tap into the secret all the best punk bands know. All you need is just over two minutes to make your mark. With ‘Don’t Jump’ they definitely do that. Loaded with power chords, thumping bass, energetic drum rolls and the catchy chorus of “don’t jump in front of my car”, Science Made Us Robots will have you singing along long after you’ve stopped listening on repeat, as I have.

Being new to Science Made Us Robots, I was excited to learn that there was a new album on the way this year, but even happier I had their previous work to explore including their albums Rats and Swans, Paper Bones, and the surprising acoustic offering Dividing by Zero proving they’re not a one-trick pony.

Discovering this band has been an absolute triumph for me, and will be for anyone who shares a love of the greats such as The Offspring, Pennywise, Social Distortion and the raw early work of Green Day. The only disappointment I got from discovering this band is that they’ve got no shows in my neck of the woods since they are clearly the kind of act you need to see live! I’ll definitely be keeping tabs on them though and I implore you too!
